Sequences
The emails of a campaign: what each one says, when it is sent and in what order.
A sequence is the list of emails a campaign sends to each contact. Each step is one email, sent a number of days after the previous one. Merge fields such as {{ first_name | there }} fill in the person's details.
- Open a campaign → Sequences.
- Edit a step (pencil) or Add Step for a follow-up. Write the subject and body, then Save.
- Set the delay ("After N days": days after the previous email; the first email has no delay) and reorder steps with the up/down arrows.
Writing tips
- Write soon after the visit. An automation adds new leads to the campaign while the visit is fresh.
- Short, about them, one ask. A few lines on their problem and one clear next step beat a product pitch.
- Give follow-ups room: a few days between steps; a handful of steps is enough.
- Relevant, not creepy. Speak to the topic they looked at; never quote exact pages, times or durations.
- Make leaving easy: end every email with
{{unsubscribe_text}}. Anyone who opts out is never emailed by a campaign again.
Common questions
Which merge fields can I use?
Click Add Dynamic Field in the editor. The fields are first_name, last_name, full_name, position, company_name, website, industry, compliment_company (written by AI for each company), sender_first_name and unsubscribe_text. You can also insert spintax (several variations of a phrase; each email picks one).
How do I write spintax?
Wrap the options in double square brackets, separated by |: [[Hi | Hello | Hey]] {{ first_name | there }}. Each email picks one option at random, in the subject and the body, and you can use several blocks in one email. Add Dynamic Field → + Create your own… builds one for you (one variation per line). Square brackets are for spintax, curly braces for merge fields. Preview shows one version.
What happens if the first name is missing?
Give every field a fallback: {{ first_name | there }} writes "there" when the name is unknown, {{ company_name | your company }} writes "your company". The Fallback value box appears when you insert a field. A field without a fallback is left empty when the data is missing.
Where do the signature and the unsubscribe link come from?
The signature is the one saved on the sending mailbox (Email Accounts → ⋮ → Edit Signature). The unsubscribe link is the unsubscribe_text field; put it at the end of the email so people can opt out instead of marking you as spam.
How do I test an email before it goes out? Preview shows the email with sample data. Test sends it to you from a mailbox you pick. SPAM Check scores the wording and offers fixes you can accept with one click. Get Deliverability Report checks where a test email lands.
Can AI write or adapt the emails? Yes. In the editor, AI Personalization rewrites parts of the email for each person following rules you write, and AI Conditions skips the email for people who match a rule (for example "skip if they are a competitor"). Both have a Run preview so you see the result before saving.
Can I delete a step? Yes, with the bin icon on the step; there is no confirmation. Contacts who already received that email keep it; nobody else gets it.
